Drab

Like most of what I do, Drab began life as a random doodle. The one became two, and so on until I had an 8.5 x 11 covered in poses and facial expressions of this odd creature. Three years later, a few other characters surfaced. In 2004, the first Drab storyboard was made, much to the amusement of the household. The cast now includes a wizard, a bird, a carnivorous daisy, a dog, a talking skull, a girl and a vampire skunk. Only a few of these have actually made it into the adventures but they will appear eventually.

This is Drab, the title character. According to the wizard, he is what happens when magical components do not come with expiration dates. Always curious and frequently in trouble, Drab takes things in stride with an often unexpected flair. His main purpose is to run errands for the wizard and mind the tower grounds. A safe enough prospect until you recall who it is we are talking about.

The Wizard is always mucking about in magical affairs of varying importance. Top on the list is to safeguard the borderland countryside from invading bandits. Withdrawn, serious and sporting a no nonsence attitude his personality often clashes with his wayward creation's inquisitive nature.

Another unexpected development in the Wizard's study is Tiggweldd the Dolba bird. Dolbas are not renowned for their intelligence. Quite the contrary, in fact, they are concidered to be the epitomy of uselessness. They have just enough sence to fly south for the winter, but do not always have the brains to realize they should also fly north again. Tiggweldd, however is the exception (but only after getting himself stuck in the tower and downing a few experiments he should not have). He strives to be as erudite as possible, which has the unfortunate side effect of near stuffiness and a severe lask of a sence of humor. Of course, it is usually up to him to keep Drab out of trouble.

One intriguing character that has not made it into the story yet is Skephaestos, the flying vampire skunk. The very brave (or exceedingly foolhardy, as the case may be) can call him Skippy for short. I have not yet decided exactly what sort of disposition this critter should have. He very much wants to be a villain. I have not got the heart or the tomato juice to tell him he might not make it entirely as an antagonist. We'll see what happens.

And then there is the Carnivorous Daisy, a wandering weed with an appetite for more than just fertilizer. On the menu today, a delectable delicacy named Drab.
